| High School Ripped Me A New One at New York International Independent Film and Video Festival Thursday May 11 !!
“Washington is a solid filmmaker who knows how to direct a film” - Don R. Lewis, FilmThreat “…High School Ripped Me A New One has all the ingredients of a true classic comedy…It was a hit at the 2005 San Francisco Black Film Festival…” - Ave Montague, Founder and Director, San Francisco Black Film Festival New York, New York – Breakout Indie filmmaker Cameron Washington prepares to wow critics once again at the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival. High School Ripped Me A New One had its world premiere at the San Francisco Black Film Festival, and has been generating a lot of buzz within the Independent Film Industry. High School Ripped Me A New One will be screened @ 8:10pm –Thursday, May 11th at Village East Cinemas, 181 2nd avenue. Hailed by Mark Farrell, of New York's CD101.9 as "a smart, honest and hilarious film." High School Ripped Me A New One is a film that invites its audience into the theatre to laugh. The film's protagonists, two sometimes loveable, always pitiable high school outcasts embark on a journey filled with mobsters, crooked cops, and stacked cheerleaders admired from afar. The parade of wonderfully incompetent characters is backed up by an unexpectedly sophisticated score. The addition of a great jazz soundtrack, anchored by Lavay Smith and Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers, an eight-piece swinging blues band, brought the film together on a whole new level. The film is rounded out by two hot underground hip hop songs, performed by Binary Star and Reign and by some great original music by Patrick Bowsher. Washington, an avid jazz trumpet player contributes his own musical stylings to the highly evolved score. ABOUT THE FILMMAKER: San Francisco native Cameron Washington proves that the true spirit of independent filmmaking isn't dead. Washington produced the entire project himself by holding down 4 jobs, maxing-out credit cards, convincing banks to grant him loans, and relying on the generally unwavering support of friends and family. Bypassing film school Washington learned the art of moviemaking from the inside out, by actually completing a feature film. Washington uses the beautiful city of San Francisco and outlying areas as the backdrop, hoping to contribute to the rejuvenation of film-making in the Bay Area. Washington began playing the trumpet at a very young age and has performed with various jazz bands for over ten years. Happily he was able to incorporate his love of jazz music into “High School Ripped Me A New One” giving the film a fresh experience. This passion will also be carried over to his next project "Sex, Drugs and Jazz" slated to begin production during the Fall of 2006, in New York City.
