Naomi Sims was the first black model to pioneer worldwide recognition in the 60's and rocketed to the top of the fashion world. Ever since, Ms. Sims became an icon for the many ethnic women who have followed her lead in changing the fashion-modeling mold and was recently hailed by Oprah Winfrey as an inspiration. She is an author of 5 books on health, beauty, and success for the black woman and will be launching new products from her cosmetics line at the event, which can be found on her website www.naomisims.com. Having recently battled breast cancer, Naomi Sims is eager to contribute to the fight against this deadly disease, by hosting the HOUSE de LUX Fall Collection Fashion Show Benefit by S and will be asking her celebrity friends to join her mission with donations. HOUSE de LUX by S will debut the first full collection at this NYC Winter Fashion Week event. Greatly inspired by Fiorucci and Patricia Field, the HOUSE de LUX collection will feature vivid colors, animal prints, exotic fabrics, and faux fur channeled into the essence of 1970's and modern international funk. About the Designer S & the HOUSE de LUX: Designer, S (Sarah Esmahan Hamady), started out making her own stylish wear as a child and attended at F.I.T. as a young adult. However, S began studying philosophy and went on to get her Ph.D. from Columbia University in 2002. Dissatisfied being a philosophy professor, she left the discipline and became a DJ, playing in New York City nightclubs. It was during this time that S reinterpreted the words from supreme funkster George Clinton's formative maxim, "Free your mind and your ass will follow." S says, "Free your ass and your mind will follow!" because freeing your ass--by wearing fantastic, colorful, funky clothing and, of course, by dancing--is not only easier than freeing your mind but it is also a lot more fun. Thus began the birth of the slogan "FREE YOUR ASS" and S' devotion to funk through the HOUSE de LUX.
